According to data from the General Administration of Customs, China's total import and export value to the United States in the first half of the year decreased by 9.3%. This decline includes a 9.9% decrease in exports and a 7.7% decrease in imports. As a consequence of the United States' policy of "reciprocal tariffs", U.S.-China trade saw a shift from year-on-year growth in the first quarter to a year-on-year decline in the second quarter. Specifically, U.S.-China trade decreased by 20.8 percent in the second quarter.
In January of this year, the U.S. raised tariffs on China to 145%, and China implemented 125% retaliatory tariffs. Following negotiations between the two sides in May, the tariffs were lowered. In June, China and the U.S. reached a framework agreement, under which China will approve the export of controlled items according to the law, and the U.S. will remove some of the restrictive measures. At present, both parties are increasing the implementation of the relevant results.
