CMA CGM and Maersk Announce Freight Rate Hikes
Last Friday, the latest Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI) released by the Shanghai Shipping Exchange showed that freight rates for the U.S. West Coast route plunged by 26.5% week-on-week. In contrast, the European route saw a 10.62% increase against the trend, while the South American route, which has surged in the past two weeks, recorded a 19.32% jump.
On June 16, CMA CGM announced a hike in FAK (Freight All Kinds) rates for the Nordic route, effective from July 1 until further notice. On the same day, Maersk issued a notice to impose a peak season surcharge on the South Asia route, ranging from $1,000 to $1,400, also effective from July 1 until further notice.
