Fees Mandatory for All Transiting Vessels! Major New Developments Emerge Over the Strait of Hormuz

Release time: 2026-04-30   Browsing:69次
On April 26 local time, the US-Iran standoff continued, centered on control of the Strait of Hormuz, ceasefire negotiations, and statements from both sides. Iran has strongly asserted sovereignty over the strait: parliamentary officials stated all passing vessels must pay fees and obtain Iranian permission, with ships from hostile nations and Israel banned. The Supreme Leader ordered the strait not to return to its pre-war status. On April 25, only three vessels transited the strait, a sharp drop compared to pre-conflict levels.
Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi traveled to Islamabad the same day to deliver ceasefire terms, including a new legal regime for the strait, war reparations, and an end to the US naval blockade—conditions unrelated to nuclear issues. He also called on regional states to establish a collective security mechanism free from US interference.
On the US side, Trump claimed the war with Iran would end soon with an American victory and urged Iran to initiate talks. A second round of US-Iran negotiations may take place in the coming days; Iran has demanded Trump tone down threatening rhetoric to win support from hardliners at home. Deep divisions remain over strait control and lifting the blockade, leaving the situation in a high-risk stalemate.
