In the early hours of June 15, Iran’s Tasnim News Agency cited remarks by Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Bagheri Kani, confirming that the text of the Islamabad Memorandum between Iran and the United States had been finalized, with the signing ceremony scheduled to take place in Switzerland on the 19th. The U.S. maritime blockade was lifted starting in the early hours of June 15, and military operations on fronts related to Lebanon entered an immediate and permanent ceasefire. Iran stated that all its core demands had been incorporated into the document, adding that the agreement did not signify trust in the U.S., and Iran would continuously monitor Washington’s compliance with its commitments.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also released a statement the same day confirming that the U.S. and Iran had reached a peace deal. In an earlier interview, Donald Trump said the agreement would be signed electronically by either himself or Vice President JD Vance, featuring provisions including the resumption of mine-clearing operations in the Strait of Hormuz and an Iranian commitment to abandon nuclear weapons development.
Boosted by expectations of U.S.-Iranian détente and unimpeded shipping through the strait, international oil prices posted a notable decline. In the evening of June 14 Eastern Time, New York light sweet crude futures tumbled by more than 5%, while London Brent crude also suffered a sharp synchronous drop.
