SCFI stood at 3,662.18 points on September 11, rising 2% week-on-week and marking seven consecutive weeks of gains, though divergence across shipping routes has widened. US lanes maintained upward momentum, with West US at USD 7,339 per FEU (+1.33%) and East US at USD 10,479 per FEU (+1.5%), underpinned by solid demand and capacity management. Southeast Asia routes saw a sharp surge driven by port congestion, hitting USD 1,010 per TEU (+13.1%). South Korea and Japan lanes followed suit. Europe and Mediterranean routes continued to weaken, with Europe at USD 2,545 per TEU (-3.7%) and the Mediterranean at USD 3,299 per TEU (-4.15%). Volatile Red Sea conditions have not altered expectations of excess capacity. Carriers are controlling supply via blank sailings. There will be 8 blank sailings on the Trans-Pacific route next week. Between mid-September and mid-October, 79 blank sailings are scheduled for eastbound and westbound trades, accounting for 11% of total capacity. The shipping window ahead of the National Day Golden Week remains open, while demand is set to cool after the holiday. Freight rate trends will hinge on the scale of blank sailings and developments in port congestion.
