On September 19 local time, Cooper, Commander of U.S. Central Command, announced that mines in the main shipping lanes of the Strait of Hormuz have been cleared. Thousands of vessels have transited the strait, and more than one billion barrels of crude oil have been exported from the Gulf region via this strait. Cooper claimed that Iran’s crude oil exports have dropped to zero amid U.S. restrictions.
Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, stated that Iran has submitted its conditions for ending the war to the United States via Qatar. The terms require the U.S. to cease hostilities, unfreeze Iranian assets and lift the maritime blockade. Tehran is awaiting a response from the Trump administration. He warned that if the conditions are rejected, Iran stands ready for a "decisive war". Rezaei added that Iran is well aware of U.S. military vulnerabilities. It has tested multi-warhead anti-ship missiles and possesses the capability to strike U.S. regional bases.
On the 18th, Trump stated that “the war will end soon”. He reaffirmed Iran will not obtain nuclear weapons, adding that gasoline prices will decline once the conflict concludes. He also noted the U.S. is in contact with the Houthi movement in Yemen.Rezaei, by contrast, hinted that while Iran still abides by the religious edict banning nuclear weapons development, Tehran has not ruled out withdrawing from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). He said this decision hinges on Washington’s conduct.
